Mastering

The last listening and level pass before Spotify, Bandcamp or pressing — consistent loudness plus a short report you can file with the release.

Mastering engineer listens between speakers at a tidy desk.

Mastering is not a second mix. It is balance, stereo image and dynamics on a controlled chain, then exports in the formats your release needs. Daan Meijer handles most masters in the dedicated suite at Transformatorweg 7 in Amsterdam.

Deliver a stereo mix with headroom (peaks around −6 dBFS are fine) and no limiter on the master bus. We listen on multiple monitors, apply EQ, compression and limiting carefully, and return files plus a concise loudness report. If you tracked at Prozoneova earlier, session notes help us match earlier choices.

Process

  1. Upload

Send WAV or AIFF with sample rate and bit depth, plus target (streaming, download, vinyl). Confirmation within 3 business days via contact.

  2. Analysis

We measure loudness, spectral balance and phase. EP packages compare all tracks in one session for a unified sound.

  3. Master

EQ, multiband dynamics and limiting tuned to genre and destination. Attended sessions available by appointment.

  4. Delivery

Masters in agreed formats, DDP or vinyl-ready WAV when booked, plus measurement report. Revisions: 3 rounds under terms.

When mastering helps

If your mix translates in your room but feels thin or harsh on phones, mastering is worthwhile. Same when you want singles, EPs or albums to sit at comparable perceived loudness, or when you are pressing vinyl and need safe peaks and side layout.

Mastering cannot fix a broken mix. If we hear issues better solved in mixing, we say so before billing.

The mastering suite

The suite sits within Prozoneova’s 4 rooms, separate from the 38 m² live room and vocal booth. Daan Meijer works between full-range speakers and a second reference pair; headphones check details but do not drive final calls.

Analog EQ and digital tools combine where it musically helps. No one-size chain — each mix gets its own approach within what the source allows.

Streaming, download and vinyl

For streaming we usually deliver PCM with loudness aligned to common platform guidance; our guide streaming loudness targets explains goals and pitfalls without promising vendor-specific numbers.

  • Streaming/download: 16/24-bit WAV or FLAC with true peak in a safe margin.
  • Vinyl: longer sides need more headroom; send side lengths and fades.
  • Instrumentals: separate masters available at the per-song rate.

EP cohesion and packages

The EP rate €340 covers up to four songs in one mastering session so loudness and tone match. Extra songs or remasters outside that bundle bill at €95 each.

Standalone singles stay at €95 per track. All rates include 21% VAT; business invoicing with 21-day terms is available via contact.

What to send

One stereo mix per song, no bus limiter, peaks roughly to −6 dBFS. Include sample rate, bit depth, any ISRC notes and up to two reference tracks as colour hints only — not targets to clone.

Send a zip via cloud link; avoid public URLs with personal data. See privacy policy if filenames contain names.

Rates and turnaround

Typical turnaround is five to ten business days after complete delivery; rush by agreement may cost extra. EPs or larger jobs may need a 35% deposit.

Revisions and versions

You receive 3 revision rounds per song within reasonable scope — slightly less bass or half a dB lower loudness, for example. A brand-new mix export counts as a new project.

Instrumental, clean and explicit versions count as separate masters unless bundled upfront. Bundle feedback per round so we can work efficiently.

Report and archive

Every master includes a short report with integrated loudness, true peak and duration — useful for distributors and for comparing if you remaster years later.

Project files stay 18 months at Prozoneova B.V., then delete unless you extend storage. Download finals and keep local backups.

Not included

No mixing, stem restoration, sample clearance, artwork or distributor accounts. Attended mastering outside Monday to Friday 10:00–21:00, Saturday 11:00–17:00. Closed on Sunday. Sessions by appointment. may incur extra time.

FAQ

Should my mix already have a limiter?

No. Send without a master bus limiter so we retain headroom. Light mix-bus compression is usually fine; mention it in the upload notes.

Can I attend the session?

Yes, by appointment during Mon–Fri 10–21, Sat 11–17. Unattended is standard; you receive a download link with masters and report.

How does the EP package differ from singles?

€340 treats up to four tracks in one session for a cohesive sound. Singles at €95 each are scheduled separately.

Do you deliver for vinyl?

Yes, with adjusted headroom and your side information. Send side lengths; very long sides may need extra revision.

How do I start a project?

Email [email protected] or use the contact form with track count and formats. We confirm price and timing within 3 business days.
