Vocal recording
One iso booth, an engineer on your side and a headphone mix that carries your voice — so you focus on the take, not the routing.

Singing and rap need quiet: no street bleed on the mic, no guesswork on gain, and a cue mix that feels right before you hit the chorus. At Prozoneova on Transformatorweg 7 in Amsterdam we work in 1 dedicated vocal booth with sight lines to the control room, so you stay connected while the room stays dry.
Vocal recording is for solo artists, rappers, spoken-word projects and bands adding leads or ad-libs after a live session. Bring a finished instrumental, stems from your DAW or lyrics and a tempo — we align details through contact and prep the session before you arrive.
Process
Align
Send instrumental or tempo, lyrics and references. We hold time, confirm the rate and share practical notes on getting here and Mon–Fri 10–21, Sat 11–17.
Set up
Mic comparison, pop filter, cue mix and levels. Allow fifteen to thirty minutes before the first counted take — that is part of the session, not an extra line item beyond booked hours.
Record
Full passes, then targeted punch-ins per section or ad-lib lane. We mark takes in the session so comping stays organised.
Wrap
Comping, light breath edits and export. The pack includes a rough comp; hourly bookings deliver WAV stems or a working session on agreement.
Who it suits
The booth is built for one vocalist at a time: lead, doubles, ad-libs or spoken word over an existing production. Demo singers, mixtape rappers and producers tracking a feature all share the same workflow with different time budgets.
Participants must be at least 18 years old, as stated in our terms and conditions. Up to 5 people may come along (control room and lounge); larger groups usually distract. If the whole band sings together, consider live recording in the 38 m² live room instead.
Budgeting studio time? Read our session budget guide before you block hours — it shows how leads, doubles and tuning consume time.
Booth, preamps and cue mix
The studio has 4 rooms; the vocal booth is where we prefer close mics and dry sources. The rack offers 16 mic preamps — enough headroom for intimate lines and loud rap without clipping.
You get a personal cue mix: more or less instrumental, a touch of reverb in the headphones only, no latency that throws your timing. A window to the engineer reduces the “box” feeling. The lounge is there between takes when you book longer blocks.
- Dry booth suited to tuning and comping later
- Live-adjustable headphone mix
- Control room with 32 inputs for DI or extra mics
How a session runs
A typical first booking splits time roughly like this — your material may differ:
| Phase | Guide | Goal |
|---|---|---|
| Set-up | 15–30 min | Mic, pop filter, levels |
| Lead takes | 45–90 min | Full passes per section |
| Punch-ins / ad-libs | 30–60 min | Detail and variation |
| Comp and export | 20–40 min | Stems or rough bounce |
For one three- to four-minute single, many artists plan two to three effective hours; the three-hour pack with rough comp often matches that. Multiple songs mean multiple blocks — email [email protected] for a proposal.
Hours: Monday to Friday 10:00–21:00, Saturday 11:00–17:00. Closed on Sunday. Sessions by appointment.. The studio is on Transformatorweg in Westerpark. Bus 21 stops at Haarlemmerweg (about a seven-minute walk); from Amsterdam Centraal it is roughly a twelve-minute cycle via Haarlemmerweg. You can park bicycles at the entrance; cars use paid street parking or Q-Park Westerpark on Van Limburg Stirumstraat, about an eight-minute walk.
Prepare at home
Good prep saves studio time. Ideally send:
- Instrumental as WAV (24-bit, 48 kHz) without guide vocal, or a project export
- Lyrics and structure (verse/chorus/bridge) in a readable format
- Tempo (BPM) and key if you know them
- Two reference tracks whose vocal tone you like — for direction, not copying
Bring your own in-ears if you rely on them. Skip heavy dairy right before the session; tea and water are available on site. If you mix yourself later, exporting stems helps when you send vocals to mixing.
Tuning, comping and rough mix
Basic pitch tuning is available on request — subtle finishing, not a default auto-tune look. For an obvious effect we print a separate track so the natural take remains.
Comping (building the best lines from several takes) is standard on professional vocals. Hourly bookings include comping within booked time; the €395 pack adds an explicit rough comp so you can judge emotion at home. That is not final mixing: balance, effects and master are quoted separately.
Release-ready loudness often follows mastering; see streaming loudness targets if you aim at Spotify or Apple Music.
Delivery and archive
Default delivery is WAV 24-bit / 48 kHz aligned to the start of the song. On request: multitrack vocal stems (lead, doubles, ad-libs separated), a Logic or Pro Tools session export, or a stereo rough bounce for quick feedback.
Files go via secure download or to your own SSD. Prozoneova B.V. keeps session media for 18 months on internal storage, then deletes unless you extend. Back up yourself — we are not a cloud archive.
Turnaround: same day for exports that fit inside the session. Extra offline comping after hours is scheduled with delivery time in the quote.

FAQ
How many hours for one song?
For a three- to four-minute track with lead and a few doubles, plan two to three hours including set-up. Heavy ad-libs or multiple languages need more — send a demo via contact for an estimate.
Can you mix the instrumental in the same visit?
Recording and mixing are separate: mixing is mixing at €185 per song. You can still discuss stems with the engineer right after vocals.
What if I am ill on the day?
Tell us as early as possible via 020 737 4829 or [email protected]. More than 5 days before, we move the date at no charge; inside that window the deposit rules in terms and conditions apply.
Do you offer lyric or melody coaching?
We give technical feedback (timing, articulation, levels) and optional performance notes, but we do not replace a vocal coach or songwriter. Arrange that support separately if you need it.
Can I take raw takes without a comp?
Yes. Ask at export; you receive labelled individual takes or a folder of passes. Comping takes time — book extra hours if you want everything aligned.
