Mixing

From rough multitrack to a coherent song: balance, space and dynamics — with a fixed number of revision rounds so you know where feedback ends.

Mix engineer at desk with monitors and lamp in indigo control room.

A mix decides whether bass and kick cooperate, whether the vocal stays forward without shouting, and whether the track still makes sense on phone speakers. Prozoneova mixes from our control room on Transformatorweg: hybrid desk, treated room and engineers who work daily on local indie, hip-hop and electronic projects.

Mixing is for self-recorded producers, bands wanting a mix after live sessions, and artists who tracked vocals with us but want an external mixer. You supply labelled stems or a session; we deliver stereo mixes (and optional mix stems) on an agreed timeline.

Process

  1. Intake

Upload stems, tempo and references via contact. We check sample rate, clipping and track names; missing info gets a reply within 3 business days.

  2. First mix

Balance, EQ, compression, sends and automation on key sections. Offline unless you book an attended session at €92.

  3. Revision

You receive a stereo bounce with headroom. Up to 3 rounds with consolidated notes — not endless line-by-line ping-pong.

  4. Master-ready export

Final mix WAV plus optional instrumental and acapella. Send to mastering or tweak yourself — your call.

Offline vs attended

Per song (€185) covers a standard track up to 40 stems: drums, bass, keys, guitars, vocals, FX returns. We mix offline on studio time and send a first bounce; you listen at home and return notes.

Attended mixing (€92) means you sit in the control room and decide in real time. Useful for heavy automation passes or cinematic builds. Book at least two hours for meaningful progress.

Both paths share the same 3 revision rounds; extra rounds or stem tweaks bill hourly after written confirmation.

What to deliver

Read export stems for mixing — it describes the map we expect. Minimum checklist:

  • All tracks from the same start point (bar 1 / downbeat)
  • Consistent sample rate (48 kHz recommended) and 24-bit WAV
  • Clear names: Kick_In, Vox_Lead, not Audio_47
  • Tempo, key and any tempo map
  • Reference tracks (links or WAV) for tone, not loudness cloning

ZIP via cloud link or SSD at an attended start. No unlicensed samples — you are responsible for rights; see terms and conditions.

Approach by genre

We tune the workflow to your material, not a preset menu:

Hip-hop / R&B
Kick–bass relationship, vocal presence, ad-lib panorama and de-ess without lisp
Indie rock
Live drums from the live room, room mic space, guitars that do not mask vocals
Electronic
Sub control, sidechain choices, effect throws on drops
Singer-songwriter
Intimate vocal, minimal processing, breathing room

Every mix ends as a gain-staged stereo file with headroom for mastering — typically about −6 dBFS peak room, no limiter crush unless you explicitly want a pre-master.

Revisions and notes

Revisions work best with timecode or bar numbers and one bundled email per round. Example: “verse 2: vocal 1 dB down; chorus: shorter reverb”. Scattered voice notes slow the queue.

The track rate includes 3 rounds. After that, €92 per hour or an agreed block. Major arrangement changes (new stems, extra minutes of material) are new scope — we re-quote.

After mastering, see streaming loudness targets.

Turnaround

First mix bounce: usually 5–10 business days after complete stem delivery, depending on queue. Attended sessions can yield a work print the same day when time allows. Rush is sometimes available for a surcharge — ask via 020 737 4829.

Planning alongside vocal recording? Reserve a mix slot when you book tracking so stems flow without a dead week.

FAQ

How many tracks can I send?

The flat rate €185 covers up to 40 tracks. Extra tracks or parallel drum lanes count — send an export list for an exact quote.

Do you mix Pro Tools or Logic sessions live?

Yes on attended hours at €92. Offline we prefer consolidated WAV stems for predictable CPU and recalls.

Can I get mix stems for a remix?

On request we deliver grouped mix stems for an extra fee. Mention it at intake so bus routing is set up.

Is mastering included?

No. Mastering is mastering with its own price and level report. We deliver master-ready mixes without limiter overload.

What if stems are out of sync?

We fix small offsets; large tempo drift needs extra edit time. Use the export guide to avoid it.
